Situated right beside Duncraggan Road, McCaig's Tower can be spotted straight away when visiting Oban. Built from local granite from the village of Bonnawe, the tower is perched on top of Battery Hill where you can overlook the whole town and see islands such as Kerrera, Mull and Lismore from the Greek architected windows.
McCaig's tower was originally intended to last as a monument for local John Stewart McCaig's family, where he had plans for the elaborate structure to include of a museum and an art gallery which would obtain statues of himself and his family. However, his death in 1902 brought an end to the construction where at the time, only one of the outer walls were completed. These are the walls that remain of the tower today.

Today, the empty shell that dominates the town's skyline is now used as a public garden, offering breathtaking views of the west-coast of Scotland to Oban's locals and visitors.
